This is an opportunity for ACSS members throughout the state to join together in a "march on the Capitol" to gain visibility for the organization and to educate lawmakers about who excluded employees are, their value to all California citizens, and their issues regarding wages and conditions of employment. Members who participated in the past have reported that meeting legislators in person and addressing specific concerns of state managers, supervisors and confidential employees have made them feel that they are truly participating in the legislative process by educating their lawmakers.

This year, with 43 newly elected state legislators, it is even more imperative that ACSS members gather together in congenial and informative groups to talk with their lawmakers and provide necessary information about ACSS, its programs, legislation and membership.

At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, ACSS members from throughout the state will gather at the headquarters office at 1108 O St., Sacramento, for a continental breakfast, during which they will receive their appointment schedules and informational packets to hand out to legislators and their staffers.

This Lobby Day has become one of the most popular and productive annual events sponsored by ACSS. One more reason for its popularity could be the "Ice Cream Social" that is traditionally held that same afternoon in the Capitol. At 2 p.m., all Capitol lawmakers and staffers are invited to join ACSS members in the Capitol basement cafeteria to enjoy ice cream and cookies -- green, of course, in honor of St. Patrick's Day and to represent ACSS. Last year, over 400 people enjoyed mint, chocolate and vanilla ice cream and cookies.
