March 23, 2006: No raise in 6 years!

State Managers and Supervisors haven’t had a salary raise in 6 years ... and now DPA has once again reneged on the promise of a 5% raise for members of the "State’s Management Team".

Managers and supervisors in state service – your "Management Team" – don’t belong to a union. They do not have contracts or voting rights when it comes to approving their salary or benefit levels. They don’t hold sit-ins, walk-outs, strikes or other work stoppages.

They are dedicated public servants who go to work every day knowing that the public relies on their efforts, their decisions and their leadership to carry out the government’s responsibility to its citizens. They are the "quiet" leaders California counts on for safety and security during everyday circumstances and emergency situations.

And they haven’t realized a raise in their state salaries in 6 years because DPA Director Michael Navarro keeps thinking of them as an "afterthought."

Isn’t it time that the governor and the Legislature took notice of their work ethic, their value to California – and their growing salary lag?

After 6 years, state managers and supervisors’ buying power has clearly diminished.

Would you be able to pay your bills?

Please read and support AB 1186, which would create a Compensation Advisory Commission to set appropriate salary levels for all state managers and supervisors. Help get AB 1186 out of suspense and moving toward passage. AB 1186 would ensure that DPA could no longer ignore these vital state leaders.
