It’s no secret that due to budget constraints and misinformation public employees are under fire in California and throughout the nation.

It’s also no secret that your ACSS is dedicated to fighting those attacks and ensuring that California state supervisors, managers, and confidential employees have productive and protected careers.

As an ACSS member you can rest assured that your labor representatives are consistently working on a bevy of projects to ensure that state supervisors’ rights are maintained.

Not a member yet? Click on “Join ACSS” above to see why thousands of your peers from around the state value their membership in the state’s largest organization dedicated to serving excluded employees.

Here’s a look at just some of what your labor reps are working on right now:

Pay Inequities

In order to address years of unjust compensation for state supervisors, ACSS is conducting a comprehensive statewide survey of pay inequities between excluded employees and the employees they supervise. If you supervise employees that are paid more than you, please contact Acting Senior Labor Relations Representative Nellie Lynn at nlynn@acssonline.org

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

ACSS received notice that a recently released “Headquarters Reduction Plan” would impact nearly 300 excluded positions within the CDCR. ACSS labor reps immediately requested a meet and confer with the CDCR and DPA to ensure that excluded employees’ rights are not violated.

ACSS members with the Office of Correctional Education alerted ACSS that excluded employees were being told that supervisors in academic and vocational instruction could expect layoffs. Though ACSS labor reps could not confirm an official layoff notice, ACSS officially requested a meet and confer between affected members and CDCR to clarify the situation.

ACSS labor relations representatives are working with members at the California Youth Authority Southern Reception Center and Clinic in Norwalk to ensure that their needs are met when the facility closes its doors in early 2012.

Board of Equalization

In 2010 the DPA unveiled a proposal – part of the HR Mod program – that would evaluate and improve its classification system. Since the announcement of their intent to revise classifications at the BOE, ACSS has been working with DPA to ensure supervisors’ rights are preserved. DPA has confirmed that their final plan will be presented to ACSS for review and input in line with the Bill of Rights for State Excluded Employees.
