ACSS Senior Labor Relations Representative Bonnie Morris held a phone conference with Julie Chapman, DPA's deputy director for labor relations, about the future pay plan for excluded employees. DPA yesterday issued a memo explaining the program, but Bonnie asked for clarification for ACSS members on some points most often questioned. Read Bonnie's information here. Read the DPA memo here.

Re: ACSS gets DPA clarification on pay plan for excluded employees
Bonnie, this is what you addressed with Julie Chapman:
"When asked to address why supervisors’ step increase would take place a year and a half after rank-and-file’s – allowing some employees to earn more than their supervisors during that time – Deputy Director Chapman offered no solution. ACSS will continue to press DPA on this issue."
This is what you SHOULD have said: "....Allowing some employees to earn 5% more than their supervisors during that time ( 18 months) , AND 2% MORE FOREVER THEREAFTER" ( please don't try to explain to me we only contribute 3% into retirement instead of 5% that rank and files do, because I'd rather have higher salary so I can get a higher retirement check" Not only supervisors get paid less, but they also get a smaller retirement check than their subordinates' "

Re: ACSS gets DPA clarification on pay plan for excluded employees
ACSS, PLEASE don't even try to speak for us! DPA has no answer to how that will be handled, and ACSS couldn't even figure out a solution! I would love to negociate my own contract!

Re: ACSS gets DPA clarification on pay plan for excluded employees
I am thoroughly disgusted that managing nearly 300 employees, being on call 7/24, and having a huge level of responsibility; many of my employees make substantially more than me. My best option for salary growth is to demote. What kind of leadership will the State have if some effort is not made to re-establish historical salary relationships where the supervisor made 5 percent more than their highest paid employee, not $1000 less per month or more. I can demote, increase my salary, eliminate call, and work a 4/10 schedule, enabling me to work elsewhere to augment my income further. I am hanging in for a time only to see if ACSS earns their dues and actually does something other than watch us fall further and further behind. The dues are not high, but if they buy me nothing, I could at least see a couple more movies each month.
