Steve Poizner and Meg Whitman, Republican candidates for governor, debated in San Jose Sunday night. Among their interesting comments were these to do with state workers (as quoted by The Sacramento Bee): Poizner: "We have to fundamentally change our compensation structure for public employees. They're great people … , but the unions have taken advantage of their power … I'd like all public employees to have even their current compensation tied to the health of the economy." Whitman:  "This is the train coming down the track at every single Californian. … It's not fair to ask non-government employees to fund these lavish benefits."

What is lavish to a person who has spent in excess of $60,000,000 to try and buy an election for governor."There is the train coming down the track at every single Californian and whitman is train.

Re: What the Republican candidates are saying about state workers

Why have State Workers become the whipping boy of the fiscal budget mess ? (Most state workers aren't highly paid - they are barely making ends meet while trying to raise families and take care of homes). Did we cause it ? No. Did our elected officials cause most of it - YES. Whitman and Poizner are like sharks smelling blood in the waters. They are in for the kill, taking a bite and running.

Re: What the Republican candidates are saying about state workers

What is lavish? Many public workers who go to work for the State take a "cut" in salary..... lavish?? who are they thinking of the EXEMPT APPOINTMENTS, CEAs, DEPARTMENT HEADS, GOVERNOR APPOINTEES!? Are you kidding??? Arnold doesn't care, Whitman doesn't care, NO politician really cares about the individuals that work for the state... STATE WORKERS ARE CALIFORNIANS TOO!! WE ARE sharing the pain ... AND THEN MORE THAN ANY ONE ELSE! UN-REAL!!!!
