In what is probably good news for state workers, the governor's budget plan apparently isn't likely to pass as proposed -- or any time soon. The governor's plan to close the $11 billion gap puts an unfair burden on state workers. "Don't bet on" solving the crisis in this session, writes the San Francisco Chronicle today. The plan is a "collection of already rejected ideas, supported by almost no one," says The Sacramento Bee.

The State Worker blog also has some interesting dialog: Your comments here are welcome there.

Our members have written some strong letters to their legislators and the governor protesting the hits to state workers in the proposal. The governor, among other ideas, wants to furlough state workers one day a month and take away two of their holidays. And these cuts are on top of the cuts and increased taxes he is suggesting for all of California. Here are a few sentences from the comments; we'll run more in the future.

Is it fair that the Legislature received a pay raise while state workers and supervisors and managers get a 5% pay cut? Are we paying for their raise?

The last thing we can all afford is a pay cut, we are all already having difficulty making ends meet.

I would suggest that he put a moratorium on travel! I cannot imagine how much is spent on per diem, hotels, rental cars, airfare and venues to attend meetings.

Rather than hurt state employees, first cut any last minute spending items that were attached to this budget.
