According to The Sacramento Bee's State Worker column today, the California Correctional Peace Officers Association has filed a lawsuit against the governor contending the furloughs are an illegal pay cut. This suit differs from previously filed suits by contending the order can't be executed rather than challenging the governor's authority to issue it. The association says its members will not be able to take off their furlough time.

Re: CCPOA lawsuit: Furlough amounts to ililegal pay cut
The issue is not the ability to take the day off, it is about economics. As a Correctional Employee, I have budgeted my monthly expenses, and a large cut in pay doesn't factor in. I promised to pay my debts based on a set wage earned. The Govenor reached into my pocket illegally and by doing so has placed me into finacial ruin. I am a Public Safety Employee, I serve to protect my fellow Californians. Why as a State Employee, am I a target, what did I do, I have worked for California for seventeen years. I have a Family to suppport and the Govenor has treated me as sub-human, why? The income I earn is funneled back into my comunity by frequenting local business's. Local Business is hurrt due to my inability to spend money for services. I am a Californian, born here, raised here, and I will die here. Our Govenor and Legislature need to come back to reality and quit spending ridicules amounts of money on Illegal Imigrants and their health care, Inmates and the insane amount of money for their health care, if the Public could only see what was being spent, they would vote every Incumbent out of office, I will. The massive deficit is due to this type of spending. If I was Illegal or a criminal, California is the state to live in, they are the only ones not being hurt, they are the one receiving the money from the "Nanny State."
